That is so cool if this gets pulled on. I vote for the Big O Capsule for sure.. I think it is about time for a throw back concept. Imagine a 100,000 square foot park with the elements of the past.. I really think a long cement half pipe with extentions, bricks, channels..... is long over due.

If they go ahead with it that will be cool. Last I heard the city is doing the usuall foot dragging on something to do with the project. Was by the area Monday and noting at all. Heck with our new park here in tulare and this one I'll have some decent parks to skate now. Orange cove is the only good one so far around here. I'll keep everyone posted form a local stand point when I can.

Replica pools are a great idea, but the final product has been disappointing so far. The Nude at Palm Springs really isn't very close to the real Nude, and the Pala bowl at the skatepark is not really close to the original either. Both of the originals were great, but the rebuilds aren't as good.

I didn't ever skate Big O or the Winchester keyhole but I have heard that they were pretty epic. The main thing I'd like to see in parks with multiple pools is obstacles such as deathbox, stairs, ladders, etc. They should try to stay true to original dimensions, but alter the unridable sections such as the stairs at Pala for example.

How can you possibly remake something that was perfect by accident? Part of what made these pools so revered by skaters was the fact that they were imperfect to begin with!

That's like giving your kid a bunch of tattoos and claiming he's the next Duane Peters....

oh please please please make the peach pit, complete with the super gnarly brick coping and empty crack house right next to it for good measure/...that would be cool, but ill have to agree with EJB that it would take a ****in miracle to exactly replicate all those pools. oh well, hopefully they turn out well.

I beg to differ.

i don't remember anyone saying it was a replica, i think everyone was hoping for it though.

i believe the problem with replicas is just this. the designers try (or need) to make it skatepark friendly...easier to skate, when if fact, real pools aren't. i say if they are going to do it right, go all out...even with the unridable parts.

whatever it ends up being, this is a very cool idea, hopefully they can pull it off.

Yeah, the new pool at the Pala skatepark was not intended to be a replica of the Pala pool.
And I'm glad! that pool sucked. I mean yeah, it was fun to skate but that's because it wasn't built to skate and it was just around for so long. If there had been a GOOD backyarder a mile away, the Pala wouldn't have been riden half as much.

Anything that wasn't built for skating can be fun to skate.

Most backyard pools have crazy quirks and thats what makes them unique. Trying to make a quirk, doesn't work (like Kelly said).

Take the fruit bowl for instance, I loved that pool but the gutters would be lame.

Now, if they did Skatepark pool replicas, that would be sweet.
The Winchester Key hole.
The DMSR key hole.
Big O capsule
Spring Valley Clover.
Marina Del Rey Dog Bowl.

How about the Skatercross Snake Run?
Or the Anahiem Snake Run?
And, what 1/2 pipe? Skatopia? Lakewood? Del Mar? Paramount?

Any updates on this? All the information I can find is 3 years old.

I think a lot of the past bowls have amazing memories, but may not be as good now as they seemed in the past. I do remember Big O having an amazing capsule. Skatecity had a killer little clover bowl. I might like that now. I grew up skating Skatercross and although I loved the bowls, I don't think anyone would want to skate those things now. I think the keyhole at Memorial Skatepark would have been amazing back in the day and now nobody seems to like it. I like it except for the coping.

I think since the housing disaster and economic downturn the backyard pool scene has been rampent up there. No need for a city park when backyard playgrounds are abundant.

As Jeff posted it has been pretty bleekhere in the valley and lot of homes w/ pools have become available to skate. AND the city of Fresno is so broke they are letting folks go and cutting wages, building a skatepark in not priority on their list. Plus where it will be located you better wear a bullet proof jacket when riding there. Yea it was'nt so bad back 10 -15 yrs ago in that area but the dumb ass "BullDog" gang members have ruined that town shootings all the time and any where in town. We'll just take the back yarders for now.
